NEW LAND USE TEAM LEADER NEEDED
When the new board takes office on April 1, our current land use leader will be going on sabbatical.
Meetings
The land use team is a standing committee, usually meeting every four to six weeks. The team members’ schedules determine the timing and duration of the online meetings. The committee discusses how Del Rey is impacted and then outlines those points in a letter or arranges to meet with the powers that be. Under the bylaws, every public position taken must be approved by the board, and once approved, all letters and statements are posted on our website, www.delreyresidentsassn.org, our de facto archive.
Duties
The team leader is the primary contact for residents concerned about a specific project in the neighborhood, e.g. 5000 Beethoven, or a broader policy issue, e.g. updating the Palms Mar Vista Del Rey Community Plan. Committee members and the team leader monitor local media, Planning Department notices and the activities of other community groups to stay abreast of land use developments in the area.
The committee members shape what the land use committee does. The members live in different parts of Del Rey, have different areas of interest and expertise and have different temperaments. The team leader’s job is to coordinate the committee’s efforts to be as effective as possible. How that gets done will depend on the leader’s own personality, interests and skills.
Roles
Because the Del Rey Residents Association (“DRRA”) is allowed to lobby, we can act on state and county matters when the Del Rey Neighborhood Council (“DRNC”) cannot. Also, the DRNC is bound by City rules, so the DRRA can sometimes act faster than the DRNC. The DRRA has been “an independent voice for the Del Rey community” since 1972, and the team leader’s job will be to continue providing that voice on land use issues.
Contact
If you would like to serve as team leader or to join the land use committee, please contact the DRRA’s president, Elizabeth Campos Layne, at delrey.president@gmail.com or Elizabeth@agentlayne.com.
